Terrace Theatre: A new concept by King C Bharati in theatre promotion

King C Bharati said that he discussed the idea with prominent theatre director Rohit Bhat, his brother a renowned playwright Rakesh Roshan Bhat and Anil Bhat Bureau Chief PTI, Jammu, who appreciated the idea and immediately suggested that Vomedh can execute it to promote theatre and community involvement by staging the short plays at Terraces of different localities to bring people out of home to Terrace and interact with each other and appreciate art instead of wasting time on social media.

Jammu, June 03, 2018: Jammu and Kashmir has always been very active in promoting art, culture and languages since ages and has always given new concepts and ideas to society in different ways to educate the world for attaining higher goals in life.

Theatre is one such medium which saw patronage in this part of the world and gave many new concepts and ideas in the promotion of art culture and languages.

The latest to add to this medium is the introduction of “Terrace Theatre”, a new concept in theatre world given by one of the senior journalists of the state King C Bharati who also happens to be a prominent social activist, naturopath and a celebrated theatre actor.

The first episode of the Terrace theatre, was recently launched under the banner of Vomedh Rangmanch where a comic Kashmiri play “Daya Sanz Daygath” directed by Rohit Bhat and written by Ravinder Dhar was staged under the supervision of playwright Rakesh Roshan Bhat.

Talking to reporters the brain behind the concept King C Bharati also known as King Chiranjivi Pandit in literary circles said that this idea germinated in his mind after witnessing the lack of interest among general public towards live performing arts due to the obsessive use of mobile and TV which has created a gap between individuals who remain together physically but are lost in the virtual world.

King C Bharati, having decades of experience as a working journalist and social activist says that it always pained him to see how society was falling apart due to excessive use of mobile phones and that was how the idea germinated to keep people connected through real world by enjoying good things of life together. His son Ishu Bharati Pandit is also a prominent young actor of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The idea to start a terrace theatre came to my mind to involve small group of people who normally remain connected through social media but hardly interact with each other in real world. “Terrace Theatre” as the name suggests would bring them together on their own terrace to watch real time performances and enjoy the company of dear ones taking them out of the virtual world for some time” says King C Bharati.

King C Bharati says, “it is a new idea in the theatre world and has been widely appreciated by one and all, particularly top theatre personalities who find this idea a great tool in connecting the modern day society and promote the theatre activities in J&K and other parts of the world.

“I got phone calls from Delhi, Mumbai and even UK congratulating me for this idea with many theatre activists willing to do similar experiments in their areas to promote theatre and bring the society together at the same time” King C Bharati said.

King C Bharati says that, “Terrace Theatre is a concept to involve younger generation in real world activities and can be adapted as per requirement like lawn theatre, marriage theatre, hotel theatre and any occasion theatre as my idea is to let the younger generation showcase their talent anywhere, anytime where people gather to spread social messages and take people out of the virtual world even if for a few hours to make it a interacting society in real sense rather than virtual sense.”

King C Bharati has been actively involved in promoting theatre and has given stellar performances in ‘Khoya Bachpan”, Ek Aur Birbal”, “Rovmut Bhatta”, “Mazhab Nahi Sikhata”, “Chariey Maet” and “Ateeth Ke Sakhshi”. He will be seen performing in three plays Khoya Bachpan, Ek Aur Birbal and Ateeth Ke Sakhshi once again at Jammu, Chandigarh and Srinagar in June this year.
