KARGIL, AUGUST 01, 2021: With the objective of transfer and demonstration of technology of low cost rainbow trout hatchery, SKUAST Kashmir in collaboration with Fisheries Department Kargil organized an awareness programme for local trout fish farmers at Conference Hall Drass here on Saturday.
Assistant Director Fisheries Kargil Murtaza Ali, BDC Chairpersons and other PRI members besides local fish farmers of Drass and adjoining villages participated in the awareness programme.
Young Scientist Awardee and faculty member of Fisheries SKUAST Kashmir Dr Muhammad Iqbal Mir who has developed the technology based on RAS highlighted the importance of low cost hatchery and said that aquaculture plays a major role in respect of human nutrition and providing employment opportunities to unemployed youths of the region by undertaking fish culture and marketing of fishes.
Meanwhile, the speakers on the occasion said that Kargil is considered as one of the most suitable region for undertaking trout culture because of its favourable resources and agro climatic conditions. It was further stated that the region is bestowed with rivers, streams and lakes to support large scale aquaculture activities which not only can produce fish to meet the regional requirements but also export the surplus through augmentation of new aquaculture technologies.
