KVK Kargil organizes Technology Demonstration Day, inauguration of hydroponic fodder production system

KARGIL, JULY 08, 2021: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil-I organized Technology Demonstration Day to showcase the techniques and technology of the Kendra along with the inauguration of the hydroponic (soilless) fodder production system here today.

Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan was the chief guest on the occasion, while the event was also attended by the Executive Councillor for Agriculture Aga Syed Hassan Arman Mosavi, Executive Councillor for Tourism Er Punchok Tashi, Executive Councillor for Works Aga Syed Abbas Razvi, Executive Councillor for Agriculture Mohsin Ali, Councillors, PRI members and officers of agriculture and line departments were present on the occasion.

CEC Feroz Khan while speaking on the occasion appreciated the KVK for organizing technology demonstration day for the public representatives and said that if the representatives are aware about such technologies, the adoption will become easier. He stressed that if all the line departments along with the public representatives work together on a common platform, the destiny of farmers will surely change in the coming years.

Underlining the importance of technology up-scaling, the CEC assured that a meeting in this regard will be organized by LAHDC, Kargil where all the Councilors, BDC Chairpersons and Sarpanches will be invited. He also directed the Head KVK Kargil-1 to prepare a detailed PPT on the potential of technology upscaling.

Meanwhile, officers including the Principal Scientist, KVK-1 Dr Ghulam Mehdi demonstrated techniques and technology of the farm such as resources conservation of alfa alfa for different vegetables cultivation using mulching, vegetable cultivation under drip irrigation systems with and without mulching, cultivation of baby and sweet corn with different spacing under drip irrigation, multiplication of dwarfing rootstock of apple under high tech greenhouse and nutrients standardization for soilless cultivation of high value vegetables.

The field demonstration was followed by the inauguration and demonstration of hydroponic fodder production machine which has the capacity to produce 70-100 kilogram green fodder per day which is more nutritious than the conventional one.

During the interaction session, Dr Ghulam Mehdi briefed the CEC and other dignitaries about the problems being faced by the line departments for up-scaling the technology which can be ascertained by involving public representatives.

The Head KVK-I Kargil assured that the KVK Kargil will train 2 persons from each constituency on production of biofertilizers such as Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Azospirillum, Phosphorus Solubilizing Bacteria and Trichoderma so that the consumption of synthetic fertilizers can be reduced up to 50% along with improvement of soil fertility. He further said that Double Cropping (Barley+Turnip) under non-traditional area will result in production of turnip 100 q/ha as fodder, adding he said that keeping in view the interest of farmers to add mushroom cultivation in their farming system, KVK Kargil has started production of mushroom spawn at their own laboratory.
