Kargil celebrates 7th International Day of Yoga

Prominent persons, volunteers, youth, students, families participate with enthusiasm

KARGIL, JUNE 21, 2021: Like other parts of the country, the 7th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with enthusiasm across Kargil district here today.

Since in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation, no major official yoga gathering or official function was held, a series of yoga exercise sessions restricted to home with family were held at the District Headquarters as well as the Sub Divisional and Tehsil levels.

To mark the day, under the theme for this year’s International Yoga Day “Yoga for Wellness”, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan and Advisor to LG Ladakh Umang Narula performed yoga asanas and ‘pranayama’ breathing exercises.

Meawnhile, the Executive Councilor for Social Welfare Aga Syed Hassan Armaan Mosavi, Executive Councillor for Tourism Er Punchok Tashi, Executive Councillor for Works Aga Syed Abbas Razvi, Executive Councilor for Health Mohsin Ali, Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve, SSP Kargil Anayat Ali Choudhary, Additional DC Kargil Tsering Motup, Additional SP Kargil Iftikhar Talib Choudhary, heads of political and social organizations and elected representatives performed yoga at their respective homes with families while ensuring strict adherence to COVID-19 SOPs.

Meanwhile, district officers, doctors and paramedical staff of District Health Society Kargil, Physical Instructors of Youth Services and Sports Department, Anganwadi Workers and Helpers of ICDS, Volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), students of different schools, youth and different families enthusiastically performed Yoga Asanas and ‘pranayama’ (breathing exercise).

During the yoga sessions, apart from performing the yoga asanas and breathing exercises, the importance of yoga as a form of exercise in maintaining physical and mental fitness was also highlighted, and how yoga promotes harmony between mind and body, especially its role during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation as it helps in boosting the immunity of the human body to fight with different ailments.

As a part of the 7th Yoga Day celebrations, a video yoga contest was held among the school children of the district wherein more than 25 entries were received by the District Administration.
