Javaid Rahi gets national Award for documenting Gujjar Culture of J&K
Jammu, June 20, 2021: Noted Tribal Researcher Dr. Javaid Rahi was conferred with the prestigious ‘ Jagom Memorial National Award ’ for his distinguished services in the field of preservation and documentation of intangible tribal folk Cultural Heritage of Gujjars Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir.
Instituted in 1991, by Snehil- An Utter Pradesh-based national Art organization working for the conservation of Cultural Properties, the awards were given to personalities of national repute to recognize their services in each field . The awards were given on the recommendation of a high power jury.
This year the Award presentation ceremony was held at Jagom Bhawan , Rampur, Saharanpur and a large number people also witnessed the event online .
Those who win awards include Vice Chancellor Doon University Surekha Dangwal (Education), Dr. Javaid Rahi, (preservation and documentation of intangible tribal folk Cultural Heritage of Gujjars Bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir), Vice Chairman Lalit Kala Akademi’s Dr. Nand Lal Thakur (Art), Dr. Shashi Jha (Painting), Surendra Chauhan, ( Journalism) and others.
National President of Snehil Sanstha Dr. Mamta Singh presented the awards. In his address she said that the awards were given for distinguish services and was instated in memory of renowned cultural personalities Sh Omkar Singh and Smt.Jagdevi kumari.
Dr. Javaid Rahi has authored 12 books in Gojri ,Urdu and English and edited around 300 books/ journals including First-ever Concise Gojri Dictionary, Hindi, Gojri Dictionary, Folk-lore Dictionary of Gujjar Tribe , and Encyclopaedia of Himalayan Gujjars.
Dr. Rahi has done a pioneering work in the field of documentation Folk, Sons, Folk Tales, Oral-lore, myths and legends of Gujjars in Audio-Visual, and Book form.
