Hockey J&K congratulates Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra on his re-election as President FIH
Jammu, May 23, 2021: On the occasion of proud moment for India , Hockey J&K has congratulated Dr Narendra Dhruv Batra for his re-election as President of International Hockey Federation during the 47th congress of FIH.
According to a press statement issued by Dr Taran Singh, General Secretary Hockey J&K, the incumbent Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra of India was on Saturday re-elected as the International Hockey Federation (FIH) President for a second term after beating Marc Coudron of Belgium by a slender margin of just two votes during the world body’s virtual 47th Congress.
Considered the favorite from the beginning, Batra, who is the also the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, barely managed to pip Coudron, who is the chief of Belgium Hockey Federation and sits on the country’s Olympic panel.
Dr. Batra secured 63 votes as against his rival’s 61 to emerge winner during the online voting process, in which 124 member associations participated.
Son of the soil Dr Narendra Dhruv Batra is the first non European who will lead the prestigious FIH second time in a row.
A total number of 124 Hockey federations of different countries from all over world participated in the election. Earlier he was elected in 2016 as president of the organization.
Son of the soil leading businessman Dr Batra hails from Abi Guzar Lal Chowk Srinagar Kashmir and he did his schooling from Burn Hall school Srinagar and graduated from Amar Singh College Srinagar. He was connected with sports since his childhood. He represented J&K in many national hockey championships in various age categories
Dr Batra remained president of J&K Hockey Association from 1999-2009 and later president of Hockey J&K from 2009-2016.He also lead Hockey India for a long time.
