Higher Education institutions in UT Ladakh observe International Day of Yoga, 2021

KARGIL, JUNE 21, 2021: All 6 colleges of UT Ladakh collaborated in organizing a one day national webiner on Yoga and Stress Management on the occasion of the 7th International Yoga Day today.

The colleges included Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh, GDC Kargil, GDC Nubra, GDC Zanskar, GDC Drass and GDC Khaltse.

This was a historic event that for the first time that all the higher education institutions of UT Ladakh joined hands in disseminating the essence and importance of yoga in UT Ladakh especially among the students.

The webinar was conducted under the supervision of Nodal Principal Professor Tashi Ldawa, while Dr Anil Kumar Karwande, Former Principal, Ishwar Deshmukh College of Physical Education, Nagpur, Maharashtra was the keynote speaker.

The webinar began with the welcome address by Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal, GDC Drass who welcomed the keynote speaker Dr Anil Kumar Karwande. He also thanked all the Principals, especially Professor Tashi Ldawa, Nodal Principal for his visionary idea to celebrate this event collectively, and also welcomed all the Directors Physical Education and Sports of the colleges , staff members and students while also advising them to practice yoga on a daily basis to stay fit, healthy and happy.

This was followed by a talk by Dr Tsewang Motup, Principal GDC, Nubra and Professor Nasir Shabani, Principal GDC, Zanskar while Dr Ujwala Koche, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, GDC, Khaltse formally introduced the key note speaker to the participants.

The keynote speaker, Dr Anil Kumar Karwande, Former, spoke extensively on the role of yoga in stress management and also mentioned about the various factors and causes of stress in our life especially during the COVID-19 situation, and how to overcome stress through practice of asanas and pranayama.

Good number of faculty members and students participated in the event.

A question-answer session was also held on the occasion.

The webinar concluded with vote of thanks by the College Director of Physical Education and Sports, GDC, Kargil Muhammad Yasin while the entire session was moderated by Dr Jigmet Dechan, Director Physical Education and Sports, University of Ladakh who was also the special guest on the occasion.
