GCW Gandhi Nagar organises Webinar on “Building Skills for Sustainable Development”

Jammu, February 13, 2021: Keeping in view the importance of skills in today’s scenario, Govt. PG college for Women Gandhi Nagar in collaboration with J&K Science Technology and Innovation council, Science and Technology Department, Thanda Padder, Udhampur here today organised one day webinar on the topic “Building Skills for Sustainable Development.”

Principal of the college and Chief Guest on the occasion Dr. Sangita Nagari in her inaugural address stressed on the importance of Building Skills in capitalising on the potential of the youth for achieving sustainable and equitable development. She also urged upon the Youth of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir to equip themselves with various skills to meet the demands of our rapidly growing economy. She also congratulated the organising team for selecting such an appropriate topic which is the need of the hour.

Ms. Shruti Khanna , Assistant Director/ Incharge  District Coordinator JKSTIC , DST, the Program Coordinator in her address thanked the Principal of the college for extending support and coordination in organising the webinar and lauded the efforts of the organising committee in making the event  a success.

Dr. Manisha Kohli, Associate Professor, Govt. Degree College Udhampur in her lecture apprised the participants about the importance of psychological or mental skills in enhancing confidence, goal setting and achieving most productive mindset among other skills. She also opined that improving psychological skills can enhance the academic performance and over well being – a pre- requisite in achieving and enhancing other skills.

Elaborating on how building skills is vital for achievement of sustainable development, Dr. Shelly Sehgal, Assistant Professor, Central University , Jammu in her presentation focused on the challenges required to be faced by the youth of India . She also highlighted the huge shortage of skilled workers in our country and motivated the youth participants to acquire various skills to face the demands of the current highly competitive job market. Dr. Shelly also focused on the Smart Agriculture techniques like hydroponics in her presentation.

Earlier, the Organising Secretary Dr. Neelima welcomed the Chief Guest, Resource persons and the participants from the UT of J&K.

Around 100 participants including faculty and students from both Jammu and Udhampur actively participated in the webinar

The proceedings of the program were conducted by Dr. Revika Arora and Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Nidhi Suri. The program was successful with the technical support of Er. Harneet Singh and his team of EDUSAT, student coordinators Shalini Rasgotra, Ivanka Raman and Abhinoor Kour.
