Foundation Day Cup: JKTA to involve 2000 players

Jammu, February 18, 2021: With the support from Korean Cultural Centre, New Delhi and Samsung (South Korea), the Jammu and Kashmir Taekwondo Association (JKTA) has taken a firm decision to involve record breaking around 2000 players in maiden Vishal Memorial JKTA Foundation Day Cup slated on February 20 and February 21 at New Indoor Hall, MA Stadium, here.

The first of its kind event shall be held simultaneously at all 20 districts on 20th February with the Opening Ceremony of newly carved Union Territory with the sole aim to make J&K hub of the game of Taekwondo in the country. On 21st February all Districts will observe the closing ceremony of the said Championship.

“It was my dream to do something big in the name of my Guru and founder of the game of Taekwondo in erstwhile J&K State, Vishal Sharma. Finally, it was decided to hold a unique event on the 35th Foundation Day of the JKTA which was formed in 1986. It will be a record in itself to simultaneous competition all over the UT with over 2000 players taking part,” said International Player/coach and Referee Committee Member (Kyorugi/Poomsae), INDIA TAEKWONDO (IT) Atul Pangotra.

Adding he said, “I had approached the JKTA for holding the event and fortunately the Association agreed on my request and approved the competition.”

Interestingly, the JKTA has decided to introduce the game of Taekwondo to those children from slums, orphaned,Para and Kashmiri Migrants during the two-day event.

“When we shared the idea of involving  Para-Athletes and young children who have lost their parents and houses during the Militancy related incidents and others live in slums, the Korean Cultural Centre agreed to extend a helping hand to such players in pursuing the game,” disclosed Atul.

Through Korean Culture Centre, India the Samsung Company (South Korea) has confirmed their Sponsorship for this mega event.
In terms of other Sponsors we have Sport’s line (J&K), Aasma Charity Trust, Universal Sports Industries (USI), Atul International Taekwondo Academy and Shield Taekwondo Academy, who are supporting this event to make it a grand success.
