Director RDD flags off waste management vehicles for 6 blocks
KARGIL, JUNE 14, 2021: Secretary Rural Development Department (RDD) and Panchayati Raj Ladakh Tahir Hussain Zubdavi flagged off 7 waste management vehicles for 6 blocks of Kargil district at Tourist Facilitation Center (TFC) Kargil here today.
Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Kargil Ghulam Muhammad, District Panchayat Officer (DPO) Padma Angmo, BDC Chairpersons, BDOs and Panchayat members of respective blocks were present on the occasion.
The waste management vehicles, bailing machines and segregation centres have been developed and purchased at a total cost of Rs 2 crores and 25 lacs under SDP. The initiative has been taken under Phase-II of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) which is extended from 2020-2024.
The key objectives of the Phase-II is to sustain the behavioural changes among people about the use of toilets. It is also aimed to provide access to sanitary complexes, solid waste management, plastic waste management and faecal silt management.
Pertinent to mention that the first phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) that extended from 2014-2019 was aimed at providing individual household latrines, sanitary complexes at public places, and access to toilets. It was also aimed at bringing a behavioural change among public for use of toilets.
The waste segregation centres have been provided to 6 blocks which include Kargil, TSG, Sankoo, Zanskar, Drass and Shargole. Meanwhile, the segregation centre at Kargil is already functional.
