Cloudburst triggers flash floods in several areas of Kashmir

Several residential houses suffer minor damage in Ganderbal’s Watlar, no loss of life reported, cloudburst triggers flash flood in Tulail, Vehicle damaged in mudslide in Doda

Ganderbal, July 12, 2021 : A cloudburst hit Watlar area of Lar in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district in wee hours on Monday, triggering flash floods, which caused partial damage to several residential houses and many inner roads in the area.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that flash floods triggered by a cloudburst lashed several residential houses and roads in Watlar village, causing significant damage.

The official said that, however, there was no report of any loss of life in the incident.

He said that due to the cloudburst flow of water increased in Charnari Nallah, which caused damage to nearby residential areas. The official said that rescue teams were immediately pressed into service to restore road connectivity to the area.

A revenue official said that teams were deputed to the area to ascertain the details of damage caused by flash floods.

He, however, said that the situation was under control and there was no loss of life reported in the incident. He said that as per the assessment conducted to ascertain severity of damage, it was found that no house was completely damaged and no family got displaced who needs to be rehabilitated.

“The revenue field agency under the supervision of Tehsildar Lar has surveyed the damage of houses, paddy fields, horticulture and poultry for processing relief cases and found that no requirement of immediate relief in the form of ration and household items was required to anyone,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Kastigarh area of Doda a vehicle got trapped after a mudslide hit it, however, no loss of life injury was reported in the incident.

An official said that traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar got affected for a few moments at Sarmoli today, however, later the traffic movement was restored.

He said that in Jammu after overnight heavy rains, water entered into several residential houses and business establishments in more than half a dozen localities including Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar and Gadi Garh.

Meanwhile, a cloudburst triggered flash floods in Zadgey village of Tulail valley of Bandipora on Monday evening, however, as per officials, there was no loss of life or any damage to property—(KNO)
