CEC and DC Leh visit Nubra & Changthang

Extensively assess on-ground situation of Covid-19 in the region

Leh, May 29, 2021: Keeping in view the sudden surge and report of a cluster of Covid-19 positive cases in Nubra and Changthang regions in recent times, the Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson and DC/Chairman DDMA Leh, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse visited these regions during an extensive tour to the Covid-19 affected villages of both these regions on 27th, 28th and 29th May.

The officials visited villages of the Nubra region on the first day and travelled from Nubra to Changthang via the Shayok river route on the second day. They visited Rongdo, Agham and Digar villages of the Nubra region in the morning. They also visited Tangtse, Sato, Chushul, Tsaga, Nyoma, Chumathang, Hemya, Kungyam and Liktsey villages during their two-day tour in the Changthang region.

The team of officials led by CEC Gyalson and DC Shrikant made field visit to Covid containment areas, village health care centres and Covid care centres of all the villages. They interacted with the front line workers (FLWs) and public representatives to review necessary medical arrangements and the ground situation to contain the spread of the new wave of Coronavirus in the community. The officials handed over oxygen concentrators to the primary health centres. They also distributed hand sanitisers, face masks and pulse oximeters to every health centres of the villages.

They appreciated the hard work of the FLWs in controlling the spread of Covid-19 in the regions. They requested the general public to cooperate with the health workers in detecting and containing the spread of the virus among the masses.

The team also interacted with the concerned village representatives and listened to their grievances. The village representatives apprised officials of various issues, including proper road connectivity, educational facilities and internet connectivity in the border regions. CEC Gyalson and DC Shrikant assured their full assistance in redressing the genuine concerns, with utmost priority given to education and internet connectivities in these regions.

Post-tour, CEC Gyalson stated that the objective of the two-day tour was to review the on-ground situation and assist and motivate the front line workers in controlling the spread of Coronavirus disease in remote regions of Leh district. He added that the Covid-19 scenario in these regions is under control since the maximum cases detected are asymptomatic and the Covid-positive patients are under the proper surveillance of medical officials. He also stated that the administration is working day and night in helping the general public in tough times by providing timely essentials to all the villages.
