GDC Drass celebrates World Environment Day, 2021
KARGIL, JUNE 05, 2021: Department of Bioscience, Government Degree College (GDC), Drass organised an online webinar on World Environment Day here today.
Principal GDC Drass Dr Amjad Ali Abassi presented the keynote talk on ecological restoration wherein he briefed about the concept and importance of ecological restoration in the fragile ecosystem of Ladakh.
Dr Amjad Ali urged the students to take pledge to restore the river channel of Drass town. He assured that the college will provide all possible help to make the stream clean for drinking purpose as well in future.
This was followed by talks on the theme of World Environment Day by Jabir Hussain Lecturer EVS, Padma Dolkar Lecturer Zoology and Jigmet Stanzin Lecturer Chemistry.
All the speakers laid stress on environmental protection in their presentations and highlighted the need to work towards taking concrete steps at every level to raise consciousness and spread awareness about the threat to the environment due to rising pollution levels and climate change.
The programme ended with a question-and-answer session and vote of thanks.
A good number of students and all the faculty members participated in the said programme.
Earlier, the programme began with an introductory talk by Lecturer Botany, Muzafar Ahmad Zargar who briefed the students as to how the environment gets degraded by different means both natural and anthropogenic, and the remedial measures in this regard.
