Yogi appeals for the passage of J&K Temples & Shrines Bill forthwith
Jammu, January 25, 2024: The overall condition of temples and Shrines in Kashmir Valley is pathetic and dilapidated after the forceful exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from their native places in Kashmir Valley. That despite passing of more than thirty-four years in exile, Kashmiri Pandits have been strongly demanding for the passage of J&K temples and Shrines for the maintenance and upkeep of all temples and shrines those have been either damaged, gutted or their lands illegally occupied by anti-social elements after our forceful migration in 1990 but no tangible action has been taken in this direction so far by the previous Governments.
In a statement issued today by senior KP leader M.K. Yogi has said that after a thorough survey, hundreds of temples and Shrines in entire valley where Kashmiri Pandits used to live prior migration in Kashmir are either in a dilapidated condition or their lands where they existed have been illegally occupied which is a matter of serious concern and demands immediate action under immovable migrant property act 1997.
Yogi has appealed to the Government of India to implement the J&K temples and Shrines bill forthwith for the restoration, preservation, and maintenance of our ancient temples and shrines so that our rich cultural heritage, civilization, and ethos are saved without getting further lost.
Yogi also appealed to Lt. Governor J&K to issue afresh directives to all the Dy. Commissioners of the Valley who are the sole custodians of migrant property to implement this law at the lower level with accountability in letter and spirit without any lapse as hundreds of migrant cases are lingering for want of disposal at the ground level still.
