Vomedh Leads the Charge for Gender Equality: Empowering Women and Breaking Barriers To Commemorate International Women’s Day

Vomedh Hosts Special Function in Honor of International Women's Day to celebrate Women Trailblazers; 14 women achievers of J&K Felicitated

Jammu, March 14, 2024: Vomedh, the renowned theatre group, hosted a celebratory function at the Writers Club, Abhinav Theatre Complex, Jammu, commemorating International Women’s Day and paying tribute to the remarkable achievements of women across Jammu and Kashmir.

The event, held to honour and recognize the outstanding contributions of women achievers in various fields, showcased the indomitable spirit and relentless perseverance of these trailblazers.

Among those felicitated were Dr. Usha Tikoo, Usha Jamwal, Kiran Raina, Dr. Deepali Wattal, Bindiya Raina, Sapna Soni, Dr. Neeru Kharoo, Shivani Koul, Dr. Medha Arora, Sheetal Koul, Gurmeet Jamwal, Irfana Bano, Ifra Ayoub Khan, and Dolly Raina, whose exemplary achievements have left an indelible mark on society.

Distinguished personalities graced the occasion, with Sohail Kazmi, a veteran journalist, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Samita Bhat, MK Yogi, Dr Sushil Wattal and Avtar Bhat (Daily Excelsior) as Guests of Honor.

Dr Samita Bhat delivered the key note address and talked about how to deal with life independently instead of depending on men for small things adding women are more empowered.

Each speaker commended the resilience and accomplishments of the honourees, underscoring the pivotal role of women in shaping our society and inspiring future generations.

Sohail Kazmi remarked, “as we commemorate International Women’s Day, let us honour the resilience and achievements of women who have shattered barriers and blazed trails adding it’s imperative that we continue to advocate for gender equality and empower women to realize their full potential in every sphere of life.”

Dr Sushil Wattal spoke about the rich tradition of Bharat where even the nation is revered as Mata adding while India has given many women who shaped the country, Kashmir is known for such women who created history.

He said Kashmir has always treated women with dignity.

MK Yogi in his speech said that we must use this platform to advocate for gender parity and break down barriers that hinder women’s progress and opportunities adding that it is imperative to recognize the importance of diversity and inclusion in creating a more just and equitable world for all, where every woman can thrive and fulfil her potential.

Avtar Bhat said that it was crucial that we not only recognize the achievements of women but also actively support initiatives that promote gender equality and empower women from all walks of life. He added that as we honour the women achievers here today, we must recommit ourselves to creating a future where every woman has the opportunity to fulfil her aspirations and contribute to a more inclusive society.

The function was elegantly compered by Bindiya Raina, adding a touch of grace and charm to the proceedings. Rohit Bhat, President of Vomedh, delivered a warm Welcome Address, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of these extraordinary women.

The Vote of Thanks was extended by veteran journalist and social activist King C Bharati, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of all participants and attendees.
