Unlock brings back Hustle-bustle in J&K markets

Traffic snarls at various junctions, Educational institutions continue to remain closed

Jammu, May 31, 2021: After a month-long Corona curfew, the hustle and bustle returned to the Valley markets on Monday as the government eased the restrictions on Sunday and allowed some shops to resume their business from today.

Notably, Jammu and Kashmir remained under strict curfew since April 29, 2021 in order to prevent the COVID-19 from spreading. The Union Territory especially its summer capital, Srinagar was recording huge daily positive cases following which the second phase of lockdown was announced by the government.

The lockdown was extended five times since April 29 and ended on April 31, 2021 morning.

The normal life limped back to normalcy today when shopkeepers were seen opening their shops and the public transport was back on the track again since the wee hours of this morning.

The markets witnessed hustle and bustle again today while the shoppers were seen buying the essentials like food stuff and other related items.

However, officials told KNO that the curbs continued to remain in place in the contaminated zones across Srinagar to prevent the virus from spreading. “As the curbs have been eased, the measures will continue to contain the virus. We won’t let the guard down,” he said.

Moreover, the night curfew would continue to remain in place across Jammu and Kashmir from 08:00 PM to 07:00 AM. Nonetheless, all the educational institutions including Schools, Colleges and Universities continued to remain closed. The government has ordered the closure of educational institutions till June 15, 2021—(KNO)
