Senior BJP Leader Javid Kakroo Resigns, Citing Inability to Address Kashmiris’ Aspirations
Political Shift: Kakroo's Departure Raises Questions on BJP's Kashmir Outreach
Srinagar, October 12, 2025: In a significant development, senior BJP leader Javid Kakroo has announced his resignation from the party, effective today. Kakroo, who had been a prominent voice from Kashmir within the Bharatiya Janata Party for the past two years, stated that despite his dedicated efforts, he found himself unable to effectively address the core issues facing the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Two years ago, I joined the BJP with a clear intention: to genuinely project the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially those from the Kashmir Valley, to the centers of power at both state and national levels,” Mr. Kakroo stated in a press release issued this morning. “My desire was to act as a responsible member of the party, striving for solutions to the myriad problems confronting Kashmiri youth.”
However, Kakroo expressed disillusionment with his ability to make a meaningful impact. “Despite all my efforts, dedication, and performance, I found myself unable to contribute effectively towards the goals as stated above,” he explained. “I have therefore already disassociated myself from the BJP and sent my resignation from the basic membership to the concerned quarters at both state and central levels.”
Kakroo’s departure marks a notable shift, particularly given his recent public engagements and statements on various issues pertinent to Jammu and Kashmir. Over the past year, he has been vocal on matters ranging from condemning terror attacks and calling for enhanced safety measures after tragic boat accidents to extending greetings on religious festivals like Eid and Maha Shivratri, often linking them to developmental milestones and calls for unity. His recent public statements have consistently emphasized peace, interfaith harmony, and the need for government responsiveness to public concerns, such as the tragic cloudburst in Kishtwar where he lauded the government’s swift rescue efforts while mourning the victims.
His resignation underscores the complex political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir and the challenges faced by leaders attempting to bridge the gap between local aspirations and national party objectives. While the BJP has been working to strengthen its presence in the Valley, Kakroo’s exit highlights the difficulties some local leaders encounter in translating grassroots concerns into tangible policy outcomes within the party structure.
Kakroo’s decision is expected to generate considerable discussion within political circles, especially concerning the BJP’s outreach efforts in Kashmir and the avenues available for local voices within the national party framework. His future political course remains unannounced.
