Purkhoo Camp Delegation Demands Immediate Restoration of Electricity
M.K. Yogi Leads Group, Highlights 'Pathetic Conditions' of Over 125 Families After Power Cut
Jammu, February 20, 2026: A strong delegation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits from the One Room Tenement (ORT) sets in Purkhoo camp today called upon Dr. Arvind Karwani, the Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, to demand the immediate restoration of their electricity supply, which was disconnected yesterday for unknown reasons. The delegation, led by senior Kashmiri Pandit leader Shri M.K. Yogi, met the Commissioner in his office chamber at Jammu to apprise him of the deteriorating and miserable conditions faced by the more than one hundred and twenty-five families living in the camp.
Shri Yogi detailed the pathetic conditions endured by the camp inhabitants, who are living in dilapidated temporary housing. He highlighted the numerous challenges they face, including the lack of suitable accommodation and inadequate provisions for pure drinking water. He specifically brought to the Commissioner’s knowledge the grave issue of the electricity disconnection, which has plunged the more than one hundred and twenty-five poor displaced migrant families into great discomfort and inconvenience. He emphasized that the sudden discontinuity of power has also caused immense hardships for their school-going children, disrupting their studies and daily routines.
Acting as a representative for the nodal agency of migrants, Shri Yogi appealed to the officer to take up this critical matter immediately with the concerned department to ensure the power supply is restored to the camp without any further delay. Going beyond the immediate crisis, he further urged the Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner to make proper arrangements for the long-term suitable accommodation of these families by adjusting them in appropriate quarters in any of the other camps located in Jammu.
Dr. Karwani gave a patient hearing to the delegation and, after a detailed discussion, assured them that their overall problems, especially the restoration of electricity, would be addressed on a priority basis. He promised to take up the matter with the Power Development Department immediately to ensure that a regular supply of electricity is restored to the camp in the shortest possible time.
The prominent camp inhabitants who were part of the delegation included Shri Janki Nath Raina, Shri Raj Kumar Dulloo, Shri Kamal Ji Koul, Shri Raju Pandita, Shri Janki Nath Sharma, Smt. Babli Sadhu, Smt. Renu Koul, Smt. Vandana Devi, and Shri Surjit Singh, among others.
