Day 12: Arms, ammo recovered at Poonch encounter site

Poonch, October 26, 2021: At least three persons hailing from Mendhar Sub Division area of Poonch’s Mendhar have been detained by police from Kathmandu Nepal. Official sources said that the police also foiled their attempt to flee to Saudi Arabia after their suspected involvement in militancy activities came to the fore.

It has been learnt that their names surfaced during investigation of a case registered after an encounter that broke out in Nar forests of Bhata Dhurian village of Mendhar.

Official sources told that the trio was reportedly trying to move to Saudi Arabia after boarding a flight from Kathmandu but were detained before they could have boarded the flight.

Sources said that their questioning is going on, adding that they reportedly provided logistics to the militants possibly hiding in dense woods of Nar Khas in Bhata Dhurian village of Poonch

Meanwhile, the ongoing Bhata-Dhurian encounter in Poonch district Tuesday entered into 12th straight day even as security forces claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter site.

The police said that some arms and ammunition have been recovered during searches in the encounter area of Bhata-Dhurian in Poonch

“In the ongoing anti-militancy operation at Bhata Dhurian, Nar forests of Mendhar sub division of Poonch district, Army and Police recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter site,” SSP Poonch, Dr. Vinod Kumar said in an official statement.

He said that the recovery includes one Ak-47 (underfold) with magazine, 29 AK rounds, two grenades, four biscuit packets, Sling, Socks, T-shirt full sleeve, Reebok jacket, Blankets, Tiffins, two pair of shoe and one single shoe, two detonators and two syringes.

The officials said that recoveries were made on the 12th day of the ongoing encounter with no causalities to militants so far—(KNO)
