Police arrests 03 drug peddlers in Kulgam; Contraband substance recovered

Kulgam, October 29, 2021: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police in Kulgam have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

Acting on specific information regarding drug dealings at (Dhaba) in Nippora, Qazigund, a police party from PS Qazigund rushed to the spot and during checking, officers were able to recover 60 Kg of Poppy Straw from the possession of Kuldeep Kumar son of Prakash Nath resident of Kud, Ramban. He has been arrested and shifted to Police station where he remains in custody. Besides one notorious drug peddler identified as Aasif Amin Thoker (Owner Dhaba) son of Mohd Amin Thoker resident of Waghama Bijebhara after noticing Police party managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to effect his arrest.

Similarly in another action, acting on specific input regarding drug dealings, officers at a checkpoint established near flyover crossing Qaimoh intercepted a suspected vehicle (truck) bearing Registration No. PB35Q-2555 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Somnath son of Gyan Chand and Parlad son of Amar Singh both residents of Makheriya Hoshiarpur, Punjab.  On checking, officers recovered 92Kgs of Poppy Straw filled in Apple boxes from their possession.  They been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law stands registered in respective police stations and investigation have been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
