Police arrests 02 drug peddlers in Kulgam & Awantipora, contraband substance recovered
Srinagar, November 12: Acting tough against the drug dealings, Police in Kulgam and Awantipora have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In Kulgam, during the intervening night of 11/12 November 2020, officers while patrolling at Nagbal Frisal spotted a suspicious person carrying a bag and signalled him to spot. He tried to escape from the spot but was nabbed by the patrolling party. He has been identified as Nafees Ahmad Dar resident of Brazloo along with a bag. During checking, officers were able to recover 10 Kg Poppy Straw concealed in the bag. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Yaripora where he remains in custody.
Similarly, in Awantipora, officers at a checkpoint established at village Kawani, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03-2890 driven by Ajaz Ahmad Manto resident of Waghama Bijbehara. During checking, 12 Kilograms of Poppy straw concealed in a gunny bag was recovered. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 143/2020 and 163/2020 under relevant sections of law have been registered in PS Yaripora and PS Awantipora respectively and investigation has been initiated.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
