Over 60 MTs free rice, 22 MTs wheat distributed among beneficiaries of PHH, AAY categories in Kargil
Kargil, May 18, 2021: Over 60.21 metric tonnes of free rice and 22.57 metric tonnes of free wheat (atta) have been distributed as a part of the free ration distribution to the poor and needy souls under Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalayan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in the district for the month of May and June, 2021.
Assistant Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Kargil Ruth Mary informed that 88215 beneficiaries belonging to the PHH and AAY in the district are being covered under the PMGKAY scheme in the district.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve has directed the concerned officers to take all necessary measures to ensure that the food grains reach every corner of the district especially during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
Pertinently, Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalayan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) is a central government scheme launched during the lockdown period last year amid COVID-19. Under the scheme 5 kg food grains are distributed, per soul belonging to PHH and AAY categories, for 2 months which is in addition to the monthly quota of subsidized food grain of 5 kg per person being provided under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
