Manjit Singh seeks compensation for farmers whose crop and vegetables damage in hailstorm

Seeks waiver on KCC loans, electricity bills for farmers

SAMBA, October 23, 2021: Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu and Former Minister, Manjit Singh today conducted a tour of hailstorm affected villages in Samba district and demanded compensation from the Govt, whose crop and vegetable have been damaged due to the heavy rains/hailstorms.

As the weather situation became inclement, the Former Minister Manjit Singh went out to meet farmers who have been affected badly with the massive hailstorm and heavy rains from this morning.

The Former Minister visited Partap Singh Pora, Dug, Jeda etc., and met the hailstorm affected farmers.

“The blowing of strong winds, rainfall and hailstorm in Samba has damaged standing crops and vegetables causing massive financial loss to them,” he said.

Interacting with the farmers who lost their crop, Manjit Singh said that the losses are huge and could have also caused similar damages in other districts of Jammu province.

He, therefore, demanded that the Govt. should constitute teams in respective districts to make assessment of the losses suffered by the farmers and accordingly, appropriate compensation should be given to the farmers so that they can overcome the financial losses they suffered.

“These incidents of crop and vegetable damage should be treated as natural calamities,” he demanded.

The compensation in such matters should not be delayed, he said and demanded that the immediate compensation will provide relief to the farmers.

He said that the Govt. should waive off the KCC loans and electricity charges as the farmers are not in a position to pay the installments of the loan or electricity charges.

“These poor farmers have no other means of earning. As the crop has been damaged, the KCC loans as well as electricity bills should be waived off,” he again demanded.
