Mattan, August 16, 2025: Senior leader of Apni Party and In-charge Anantnag East Constituency, Sh. M.K. Yogi, today paid a visit to the historic Martand Sun Temple, Kharibal, Mattan, accompanied by prominent locals including Mohd Yousuf Sofi, Kulvinder Singh Bali, Mohd Yousuf Zargar, Subash Kachroo, Shabir Ahmed Itoo Basant Ji Khar and others
During the visit, Yogi Ji expressed deep concern and dismay over the closure of the temple park, which has remained shut following the recent Baisaran episode. He interacted with local shopkeepers and residents, who highlighted their suffering due to loss of livelihood caused by the absence of tourist and pilgrimage activity.
Calling the Martand Sun Temple a symbol of Kashmir’s glorious history, religious traditions, and cultural heritage, Yogi Ji said that its closure has hurt the sentiments of devotees and affected the local economy.
He further pointed out that illegal encroachments around the temple premises have created serious problems for pilgrims. Yogi Ji assured the local residents that he will take up the matter with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Sh. Manoj Sinha Ji, and press for:
- Immediate reopening of the Martand Sun Temple and its adjoining park.
- Removal of illegal encroachments and development of a dedicated parking facility.
- Establishment of basic facilities such as drinking water, sanitation, and pathways for yatris.
- Adequate security arrangements for pilgrims and tourists.
Later in the day, Yogi Ji also participated in the Janamashtami celebrations at Mattan along with local leaders and community members, where he reiterated his commitment to safeguarding Kashmir’s heritage, culture, and religious harmony.
