Kartarpur corridor re-opens today after 20 months
New Delhi, November 17, 2021: Kartarpur corridor, which allows Sikh pilgrims to travel visa-free to the Kartarpur gurdwara in Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah border, reopens today after 20 months. Centre yesterday announced the reopening of the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara corridor from today, ahead of Gurupurab – the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji on Friday.
Home Minister Amit Shah said the decision reflects the immense reverence of Modi government towards Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and our Sikh community. Mr Shah said the nation is all set to celebrate the Prakash Utsav of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji on Friday and Modi government’s decision to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib corridor will further boost the joy and happiness across the country.
The corridor was shut in March 2020 in view of the Covid-19 outbreak, barely four months after it was inaugurated. The latest decision comes in the wake of a delegation of BJP leaders from Punjab meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently to request him to reopen the corridor.
