J&K Radio, Doordarshan, Stage Artists, Freelance Producers & Directors Association writes to Governor seeking ‘Relief’ for artist community
The Text of the Letter
H.E Lieutenant Governor
Union Territory of J & K
Sub: Relief for artist community.
Esteemed Sir
As your goodself is aware that our state is also reeling under tremendous economic stress since 2020 due to Covid-19 and every section of the society is badly hit by this deadly virus which has consumed millions of human lives globally. Under present scenario the artist fraternity of this state is the highest sufferer on economic front as this section of the society which include performing artist of stage radio and television the musician the singer the equipment holder the writer the freelance producer and director has been jobless since 2009-10.Because Prasar Bharti has been quite indifferent towards this fraternity and we have been left in lurch. A huge backlog since 2009 has been in limbo and not released to the concerned and fresh work in fiction category not allotted to this fraternity since 2010.With the result this fraternity has become worst sufferer and we are unable to make both ends meet.
We are thankful to your august self for releasing an amount of 9000/- per artist in 2020-21 which gave us a little oxygen to keep the wheels of our families moving but still it is very difficult for us to survive and look after our children by providing bread and butter to them under these stressful economic conditions. Once this section of our society was considered to be most respectable and elite class being an artist but having no other source of income we are in the quagmire being jobless for the last more than a decade.
We as such request your goodself to kindly have a sympathetic consideration towards this fraternity and sanction a regular monthly relief of Rs6000/- or more to each family of an artist until the pandemic is over and we are able to at least move out of our homes to search for our bread and butter. Besides the Govt of India Prasar Bharti may kindly be approached with concrete recommendations for release of backlog and revive fresh fiction programming so that this section of society is able to stabilize our economy for honourable survival.
Hope that your goodself will consider the request on humanitarian grounds.
Yours faithfully
Tariq Javaid
