ITBP personnel killed, three injured in Udhampur firing incident

Udhampur, Jul 16, 2022: A day after two soldiers were killed and two others injured in an incident of fratricide in Surankote area of Poonch, an Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel was killed while three others sustained injuries in a shootout in Udhampur district.

Officials told that preliminary investigations suggest that Udhampur incident was also fratricide. The incident took place in evening hours at community hall near Devika of Udhampur where ITBP personnel have been stationed for Amarnath Yatra duty.

As per officials, the shootout incident took place when a Constable of 8th battalion of ITBP resorted to firing on his colleagues injuring three of them. The constable later shot himself and died on spot while injured personnel are under treatment in hospital.

The ITBP Constable who shot himself dead after firing on his colleagues has been identified as Bhupendra Singh. The injured personnel have been identified as Head Constable Dale Ram, Constable Akhlak Malik and Constable Gore Rajnikant Malik. Police said that cognizance into the matter has been taken and investigation is going on—(KNO)
