Halqa e Adab Remembers  Professor Banhali

Hajin, May 29, 2021: Halqa e Adab Sonawari, the oldest literary organisation of Kashmir organised an online session in the memory of renowned writer, scholar and ex-HOD Kashmiri Department at Kashmiri University Prof Margoob Banihali who recently left for the heavenly abode. ‘’He was a well wisher of Halq e Adab Sonawari (HAS) and a scholar of high calibre”, this was stated by  former Secretary of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and  patron Adbi Markz Kamraz, Dr Aziz Hajini in his keynote address. He further added that we as a society owe a great respect and gratitude to the  literary stalwarts like Professor Banhali and their respected  families for spending major chunk of their time and life in preserving and promoting the languages they love and feel emotionally attached with.
The function was presided over by former HOD Urdu in the University of Kashmir and famous writer of Urdu and Kashmiri languages, Prof Zaman Azurdah.
The  Vice Chancellor  of Central University of Kashmir Professor Mehraj-ud-Din Mir was chief guest on this occasion who while congratulating the office bearers of Halqa e Adab Sonawari  for organising an impressive virtual meet in the memory of Late Professor assured that full support would be provided by the university in organising such events in future as well. He further asserted that the Central University of Kashmir will christen a particular library or a research wing in the  memory of the beloved Professor.
Secretary Sahitya Akademi, K Sreenivasa Rao was the Guest of Honour in the online session.
He while paying glowing tributes to late Prof.Banhali assured that the National Akademi of Letters will ascertain that the literary works of  Prof.Banhali  are translated into other Indian languages so that the readers of other regions and  parts of the country also get benefited from the great ideas and philosophy of the great author.
Those who spoke about the life and other impressive dimensions of late Professor Marghoob Banhali  include Professor Farooq Reyaz, Dr.Mushtaq Marghoob, Prof.Majrooh Rashid , Rajesh Raina, Muhammad Amin Bhat  Basheer Badarwahi and Dr Ali Muhammad Nishter.
In  his  speech, Professor Zaman Azurda  shared some great memories of the deceased  poet. He also said that it is our primary responsibility to remember our great literary and cultural icons and carry forward their great mission.
Earlier in his welcome speech, Shakir Shafi, President HAS prayed  for the eternal peace of the departed soul and assured  that  HAS would carry forward the legacy of remembering great sons of the soil especially those who have contributed to literature,art and ethos of this heavenly  place.
The proceedings of the event were conducted by the  General Secretary of HAS  Dr Reyaz ul Hasan and  the event was successfully conducted with the technical support of DTSS Central University of Kashmir. Besides,other hundreds of people from different walks of life and  students of newly started Department of Kashmiri in the Central University of Kashmir also participated in the Zoom Meeting. A vote of thanks was presented by the senior member of HAS Shahbaz Haqabari.
