G.M. Shaheen Hails J&K Govt Order as ‘Historic Justice’ for PM Package Employees
"A Turning Point": JD(U) Applauds Permanent Status for PM Package Employees, Credits LG Administration
Srinagar, January 28, 2026: G.M. Shaheen, the State President of Janata Dal (United), has strongly welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s decision to grant permanent status to PM Package employees, calling it a “historic, humane, and corrective” measure that delivers long-awaited justice.
In a press statement issued by party spokesperson Rakesh Handoo, Shaheen expressed profound gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary Shri Atal Dullu for their roles in resolving the prolonged issue. He emphasized that the decision ends years of uncertainty and insecurity faced by the employees, particularly those from the Kashmiri Pandit community.
“This bold administrative step is not merely an order but a powerful affirmation of the government’s commitment to justice, stability, and the dignity of labour,” Shaheen stated. He described the move as a clear indication that the current administration is sensitive to the genuine grievances of displaced communities and is committed to taking concrete action.
For over a decade, these employees have worked under stressful conditions while repeatedly appealing for employment security. According to Shaheen, the grant of permanent status will provide them with essential institutional recognition, financial stability, and crucial psychological assurance.
The JD(U) leader observed that this decision is fundamental to the broader rehabilitation process for Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley. “No rehabilitation policy can succeed unless employment is secured,” he remarked, adding that the order directly strengthens the backbone of the government’s efforts to create a dignified environment for their return and settlement.
While praising the administration, Shaheen also urged for a transparent, time-bound, and uniform implementation of the order to ensure that every eligible employee receives the benefit without procedural hurdles. He reiterated that JD(U) would continue to advocate for the rights of displaced employees, youth, and other marginalized sections of society.
Concluding his statement, Shaheen called the decision a landmark achievement. “This will be remembered as a turning point in the struggle of PM Package employees and as a strong example of governance that listens, understands, and acts,” he said.
