JAMMU, January 18, 2021: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah today joined thousands of devotees during a grand and massive Nagar Kirtan at Gandhi Nagar here, held as part of the celebrations of Prakash Utsav of Guru Gobind Singhji, the tenth Guru of Sikhs.
The entire area reverberated with the rendition of Shabadad Kirtan besides the constant chant of Jo Bole So Nihal by the participants, who included representatives of Sangats from different places.
The devotees comprising men, women and children were reciting kirtan while youngsters played Ghatka. Hundreds of people on both sides of roads greeted the Nagar Kirtan.
Greeting the people, Dr Farooq Abdullah said that Guru Gobind Singhji relentlessly fought against inequality and superstitions and established the Khalsa Panth. Through his poetry, Guruji preached love, equality and ethics as well as moral code of conduct, he said, hoping that Gurupurab would be more meaningful if the people take time to reflect upon the life and teachings of Guruji, which apply today more than ever.
Dr Farooq Abdullah also hoped that Prakash Utsav of Guruji would be observed in the true spirit of Jammu and Kashmir’s composite culture.
Besides Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana, the National Conference President was accompanied by Dr Mustafa Kamal, Mubarak Gul, S. Trilochan Singh Wazir, Aijaz Jan, Israr Khan, Haji Sajjad Shaheen, Anil Dhar and others.
