EC Phunsok Tashi kick starts plantation drive by GMDC, Forest Department Zanskar
KARGIL, JUNE 17, 2021: Government Model Degree College (GMDC) Zanskar in collaboration with the Forest Department Zanskar kick started a plantation drive of 1000 saplings at the college campus here today.
Executive Councillor for Zanskar Affairs Er Punchok Tashi was the chief guest on the occasion who planted the first sapling to start the drive.
Speaking on the occasion, EC Punchok Tashi while hailing the efforts of the GMDC Zanskar and Forest Department Zanskar for starting the plantation drive said that the step will go a long way in the preservation and augmentation of plant life in Zanskar besides also helping in lessening the negative impacts of air pollution.
Principal GMDC Nasir Shabani while welcoming the guests stated that initially 10000 saplings were to be planted in collaboration with the Forest Department celebrating community plantation drive, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it was decided to plant 1000 saplings this year. He appreciated the Ranger Forest Vilayat Ali for arranging saplings and assisting in the plantation drive along with the college staff.
ARTO Kargil Khadim Hussain, SHO Zanskar Jigmeth Singhe, Principal Higher Secondary School Padum Rinchen Wangbo, Assistant Treasury Officer Jigmet Lotus, media persons, staff members of the college and students of the college participated in the plantation drive.
