Jammu, July 8, 2025: As part of the ongoing 3-Day Rangutsav organized by Samooh Theatre and supported by the Senior Citizen Support Service Club, Jammu, The Reflection Group today staged the powerful Dogri play “Baba Jittmal” at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. The play is written by Dr. Gian Singh and creatively and brilliantly directed by Ravinder Sharma.
Baba Jittmal is a soul-stirring folk drama in Dogri that beautifully portrays the life and legacy of Baba Jittmal—a revered farmer-saint of Duggar Pradesh. Set against the rustic backdrop of rural Jammu, the play delves into themes of land, spirituality, dignity and sacrifice.
The narrative follows Baba Jittmal, a humble and devout farmer known for his unwavering honesty, compassion, and spiritual wisdom. As he challenges social injustice and resists the oppression of greedy landlords, he emerges as a beacon of hope and a symbol of resistance for the agrarian community.
The production featured Rohan Sharma in the lead role as Baba Jittmal, delivering a nuanced and emotionally charged performance. Vrinda Gujral captivated the audience with her powerful portrayal of Jojian, while Ravinder Sharma made a lasting impact as Mehta Bir Singh. Supporting characters were brought to life with authenticity and depth by Drishty (Bua Kodi), Ajay (Isso), Akash (Ghaggi), and Param Sagar (Malli). Other notable performances were delivered by Mukal Bains, Pooravi Sharma, Manik Sharma, Kandrav Sharma, Nitesh Kumar, Krish, Keshav Singh, Raghuvansh, and Jatin Mehra.
The aesthetic appeal of the production was enhanced by Shammi Damir’s makeup and Pooja Sharma’s costume design. Rohit Bains handled choreography with finesse, while the play’s evocative music—originally composed by Late Sh. Surinder Manhas—proved to be the emotional backbone of the performance. The soulful singing by Surinder Manhas, Nandinni Kapoor, and Mukesh added depth and authenticity. Avinash Lakhnotra and Aditya Bharti designed the impactful lighting that complemented the dramatic sequences seamlessly.
The play received overwhelming appreciation from the audience for its cultural relevance, strong performances and rich theatricality. Baba Jittmal not only highlighted the spirit of Duggar heritage but also paid a heartfelt tribute to the unsung heroes of the soil.
