Department of Zoology GDC Kargil organizes 1st Ladakh students’ online conclave on COVID-19 pandemic

KARGIL, JUNE 20, 2021: Department of Zoology, Government Degree College (GDC), Kargil organized 1st Ladakh students’ online conclave on COVID-19 pandemic here today.

The conclave featured thematic presentations by student panelists from constituent colleges and campuses of the University of Ladakh (UoL).

On the occasion, Prof T.K Thomas, Health Columnist and Academician New Delhi was the keynote speaker while Professor Deskyong Namgyal, Dean Academic Affairs, UoL was the special guest.

The conclave began with the welcome address by the co-convener of the conclave Dr Abid Hussain.

In his inaugural address, Professor Deskyong Namgyal, lauded the efforts of the organizers of the conclave for providing an opportunity to students of colleges and campuses of UoL to research and deliberate on the important issue. He assured full support from the UoL administration to the colleges and campuses in taking similar initiatives for the benefit of student community in the region.

Addressing the participants, Professor T.K Thomas in his keynote address commended GDC Kargil for organizing a student deliberation on COVID-19. He complemented all the student panelists for their presentations and also shared his expert inputs on them. He urged the students to develop their intellectual and research skills to help combat any future challenges.

Earlier, in the opening remarks, Officiating Principal GDC Kargil Dr Javed I Naqi, who was also the convener conclave expressed gratitude to the invited guests and panelists for their participation.

While sharing the purpose of the conclave, Dr Naqi said that it is an attempt to provide a knowledge platform for students of Ladakh region to connect and have their say on the 21st century challenges. He added that the conclave also aims to help participating students to hone their soft skills which according to him, are considered as essential skills in the contemporary world.

The conclave had presentations by student panelists on various sub-themes under COVID-19 pandemic like History and Types of Corona Virus, Relationship between COVID-19 and Environmental Issues, Status and Impact of COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19 vaccines, Post-Covid Complications and  Lessons from COVID-19.

The student panelists included Padma Angmo (EJM College Leh), Saima Manzoor and Muhammad Ali (GDC Kargil), Sanam Bakhtwar and Batool Fatima (UoL Leh Campus) and Hamida Banoo (UoL Kargil Campus).

At the end, Bashir Ahmad, a student participant from GDC Kargil, presented the vote of thanks.

The conclave concluded with virtual group photo session of the participants.
