DC Kargil takes stock of ongoing construction works of Parkachik Canal

Assesses JJM status of works, listens to grievances, issues of locals

KARGIL, JUNE 03, 2021:  Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve took stock of ongoing construction works of the 12 kilometers long Parkachik Canal here on Wednesday.

The canal is being constructed at a cost of Rs 56.15 crores under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) scheme.

Superintending Engineer (SE), PWD Kargil Er Ved Prakash, Executive Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Kargil Er Muhammad Hassan Lone, AEE I&FC Syed Muhammad besides other concerned officers and engineers accompanied the DC during the visit.

SE, PWD Kargil while apprising the Deputy Commissioner about the pace of progress achieved on the project so far said that out of the total length of 900 meters, boring work up to 550 meters has been completed while as the remaining work is going on in full swing inside the tunnel.

The SE, PWD further informed that on completion, the Parkachik Canal will have a capacity to irrigate 2200 hectares of land and will benefit the local population of villages Parkachik, Goma Parkachik, Youkma Parkachik, Thulus, Pursa, Namsuru, Khawos and adjoining villages, adding he said that it will also have future prospects of hydroelectricity generation.

The SE, PWD further assured the Deputy Commissioner that both ends of the will be connected by September, 2021, adding that Rs 44 crores has been the expenditure incurred on the tunnel construction works till date.

DC Santosh Sukhadeve while expressing satisfaction over the progress achieved so far on construction of the Parkachik Canal hailed the engineers, operators and workers for the commendable work done so far.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also inquired from the SE, PWD and Executive Engineer PHE, Kargil about the status of progress on the establishment of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) in Suru area under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme.

The officers concerned informed the Deputy Commissioner that work with regard to the establishment of FHTCs in case of various villages including Achambur, Prenti Panikhar, Namsuru and Rgyaling is going on in full swing while work has also been allotted for Thulus Pursa, Damsna and Khawous.

DC Santosh Sukhadeve was further informed that tendering process for establishment of FHTCs at Tangole, Parkachik, Kochik, Thagbu, Purtickchay and Karpokhar is under process and work will be allotted in case of these villages once the tendering process is completed.

It was further given out that around 300 FHTCs have been established in the area under JJM so far, while concerted efforts are being made to complete other connections as per the target within the stipulated timelines.

The Deputy Commissioner also interacted with the locals to know about their grievances, issues and developmental needs and assured them that all requisite measures will be taken for resolution of the issues in a timely manner.
