Court rejects bail application of PDP leader Waheed Para  

SRINAGAR, JULY 15, 2021 : A special court here on Thursday rejected the bail plea of PDP leader Waheed Para for the second time in five months and decided to hear Friday’s arguments on the chargesheet filed against him, officials said. Para is considered close to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

The in-camera proceedings were hearing defense and prosecution arguments on the sustainability of the case filed against Para, who was initially arrested by the NIA in a separate case related to terror-funding. Officials said the full verdict on the rejection of the bail application would be made available on Friday.

In a related development, the court also said that it would start hearing arguments on the charges filed against Para from Friday. This is the second time in the last five months that the court has rejected Para’s bail application. Rejecting the bail plea in February, the court had said that the allegations against him were “grave, serious and heinous in nature” and a preliminary analysis of the evidence collected till then showed that he was under the guise of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. was allegedly helping. In the 19-page order, the special court had rejected the argument that Para was a budding politician and observed that “perusal of the CD file revealed that in the guise of a politician, the petitioner was playing an active role in funding terrorists”. and was also demanding arms and ammunition against payment by abusing his position. Parra was detained by the Criminal Investigation Department (Kashmir) and after being released by the NIA court on January 9, He was brought from Jammu on transit remand.Parra was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 25 in a separate case related to terrorism. (PTK)
