CEC Feroz Khan inaugurates One Day Workshop on Entrepreneurship Development Opportunities in Leather and Allied Products

KARGIL, JULY 16, 2021: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan in presence of the Executive Councilor for Industries and Commerce Aga Syed Abbas Razvi inaugurated One Day Workshop on Entrepreneurship Development Opportunities in Leather and Allied Products organized by Department of Industries and Commerce Ladakh in collaboration with CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Chennai at Conference Hall Baroo here today.

Director CLSR Chennai Dr K J Sreeram, Principal Scientist CSIR-CLRI Dr Nishad Fatima, Technical Director Reflection Leather Private Limited D Sravana Kumar, Manager District Industries Centre Kargil Iftikhar Naseem, entrepreneurs, students and concerned officers of the department were present during the workshop.

Speaking on the occasion, CEC Feroz Ahmad Khan said that leather industry has huge potential in Ladakh considering its large consumption in both districts. He further said that we are unaware about the worth of animal skin that is sold to outside dealers at a meager amount, therefore youths should come forward to learn necessary skills and crafts of this industry and this workshop and the subsequent 1 month training ahead to the aspirants will definitely impart them with required skills to move ahead in this industry.

CEC Khan said that it is heartening to see that the UT Administration is providing the necessary platform, training, incentives and exposure to the youths to make them skillful to start their own entrepreneurship ventures, and this workshop is a welcome step in this regard.

The CEC added that interested aspirants should minutely study the nuances of this industry, the concerned agencies should do the necessary survey regarding the availability of raw material, and on the basis of statistics future planning can be done.

Speaking on the occasion, the Executive Councilor for Industries and Commerce Syed Abbas Razvi said that efforts need to be done to promote industrial sector in Ladakh and LAHDC will always remain on the forefront in supporting such initiatives. He expressed hope that the participants will learn maximum inputs from the workshop.

Meanwhile, Director CLSR Chennai Dr K J  Sreeram gave an insight about the history and present trends of leather industry in India and presented a detailed PPT on the subject.

Earlier Manager, District Industries Centre Iftikhar Naseem extended gratitude to the dignitaries and the participants for attending the program.

Meanwhile, presentations on the theme ‘A Glimpse of Leather World‘ and success stories pertaining to leather industry were  given by Principal Scientist CSIR-CLRI Dr Nishad Fatima and Technical Director Reflection Leather Private Limited D  Sravana Kumar.

During the workshop, an interaction session was also held between the entrepreneurs and the expert team.

More than 80 participants participated in the workshop.
