Apni Trade Union President, Ex-MLA among 30 leaders court arrest

Holds protest demanding resumption of Darbar Move

JAMMU, September 01, 2021: Apni Trade Union today staged a massive protest demonstration demanding resumption of centuries old Darbar Move in Jammu and Kashmir during which 30 leaders and workers including President of the Trade Union and an Ex-MLA were courted arrest by the police.

Led by Ajaz Kazmi, President, Apni Trade Union, the protesters gathered here outside Press Club Jammu and protested in support of their demand which has created problems for the people of both the regions. The protesting Apni Trade Union leaders and workers marched towards the Dogra Chowk when they were stopped by the police contingent following a minor scuffle. The police courted arrest them in a bid to foil their protest march.

The leaders and workers were later released by the police.

Earlier, President, Apni Trade Union, Ajaz Kazmi said that “Darbar Move was an important aspect of cultural exchange and economic interdependence of the people of Jammu and Kashmir on each other and by ending this age-old practice, it will affect the relations and interdependence and cultural exchange of the people.”
He said that the businessmen, hoteliers, and tourism are serious concerns over ending the darbar move and demand the resumption of the darbar move which would benefit both the regions equally.

“We have hotels which remain full for winters due to the darbar move and now they are facing financial issues. Same is the concern of all the traders of Jammu,” Raj Kumar Sharma, provincial president, Apni Trade Union.

Sharma said addressing Apni Trade Union leaders and workers who were shouting slogans in favour of their demands.

Meanwhile, Anirudha Vasist, District President, Apni Trade Union said Jammu is facing a difficult situation and the Govt. should not turn blind eyes towards their demands.

“The people have suffered after August 2019 and therefore, the decision about Darbar Move should be reviewed,” he added.

Prominent among those who were court arrested include Faqir Nath, Ex-MLA, Bodh Raj Bhagat, State SC Coordinator, Dr Rohit Gupta, Provincial Secretary, Shanker Singh Chib, Provincial organizing secretary, Push Kumar Uppal, district president Jammu Rural, Vipul Bali coordinator, youth wing, Joginder Singh, provincial vice president, youth wing, Suhail Khajuria, provincial secretary, youth wing, Vaibhav Mattoo, district vice president, Jammu, Dalbir Singh, general secretary Apni Trade Union, Farooq Chouhan, district general secretary Apni Trade Union, Samba, Vijay Mangotra, district president SC, Sanjay Kumar, Daljit Singh, Randhir Singh, Raipuria, sansar Chand, Ghulam Mohammed Shah, Ashraf Choudhary, Mohd Ashraf, Ankush Dogra, Jagdish Singh, Deepak Badru, Abhishek Goswami and others.
