J&K records highest COVID spike of 2021 with 2204 cases

13 more die due to virus in UT, toll reaches 2,084

Jammu, April 21, 2021: The COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir continue to show a spurt as 2,204 fresh positive cases, highest ever in ongoing year, were reported on Wednesday, taking the number of active cases to 14,928, which otherwise were less than 600 around a month before.

Thirteen more deaths were reported in the Union Territory in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 2,084 and active cases continue to increase and the recovery rate decreases with each passing day.

Officials told that among 2,204 new cases, 1,299 belong to Kashmir division while as 905 are from Jammu division, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division have reached to 91,241 including 81,226 recoveries and 1,303 deaths while as total number of positive cases in Jammu division have reached to 61,201 including 54,204 recoveries and 781 deaths.

The officials said that the total number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 14,928 including 8,712 from Kashmir division and 6,216 from Jammu division.

The overall toll of positive cases has mounted to 152,442 in Jammu and Kashmir while 92,241 among them are from Kashmir and 61,201 from Jammu division.

With 733 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 135,430 which is 88.84 percent of the total cases.

“Cases tested positive in J&K include 612 from Srinagar, 232 from Baramulla, 102 from Budgam, 64 from Pulwama, 65 from Kupwara, 61 from Anantnag, 14 from Bandipora, 32 from Ganderbal, 109 from Kulgam and 08 from Shopian in Kashmir division while as 905 from Jammu division include 461 from Jammu, 52 from Udhampur, 41 from Rajouri, 08 from Doda, 127 from Kathua, 51 from Samba, 04 from Kishtwar, 12 from Poonch, 16 from Ramban and 133 from Reasi,” officials disclosed.

As per officials figures, 36,332 positive cases including 492 deaths and 31,007 recoveries are from Srinagar, 10,939 including 184 deaths and 9,497 recoveries are from Baramulla, 9,245 including 8,500 recoveries and 123 deaths are from Budgam, 6,501 including 6,013 recoveries and 95 deaths are from Pulwama, 6,261 including 99 deaths and 5,853 recoveries are from Kupwara, 5,749 including 5,273 recoveries and 101 deaths are from Anantnag, 5,053 cases including 4,811 and 63 deaths are from Bandipora, 4,999 including 4,725 recoveries and 49 deaths are from Ganderbal, 3,379 including 2,905 recoveries and 57 deaths are from Kulgam and 2,783 including 2,642 recoveries and 40 deaths are from Shopian.

In Jammu division, 30,202 including 26,138 recoveries and 411 deaths are from Jammu district, 5,394 including 4,967 recoveries and 59 deaths are from Udhampur, 4,193 including 3,870 recoveries and 57 deaths are from Rajouri, 3,561 including 3,431 recoveries and 64 deaths are from Doda, 3,988 including 3,534 recoveries and 55 deaths are from Kathua, 3,178 including 2,854 recoveries and 45 deaths are from Samba, 2,831 including 2,770 recoveries and 22 deaths are from Kishtwar, 2,688 including 2,538 recoveries and 29 deaths are from Poonch, 2,291 including 2,160 recoveries and 23 deaths are from Ramban and 2,875 including 1,933 recoveries and 16 deaths are from Reasi.

As per the daily information bulletin 1,700,503 persons in Jammu and Kashmir are under observation while 71,347 persons have been kept under home quarantine besides that 14,928 persons are in isolation.

According to the bulletin, 1,485,101 persons have completed surveillance period and 127,043 persons are under home surveillance besides that so far results of 6,877,526 samples are available. Out of 6,877,526 the number of samples tested negative stands at 6,725,084 while as 152,442 have tested positive, among them 14,928 persons are active, 135,430 persons have recovered and 2,084 persons have died—(KNO)
