Army planning to deploy 10,000 additional personnel on LAC
SRINAGAR, January 22, 2021: The Indian Army is planning to deploy an additional 10,000 personnel by the end of this year along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in northeast India.
The Hindustan Times newspaper has quoted sources as saying that the deployment of troops is being reduced in a planned manner in the northeastern states, but now in the eastern sector, additional troops will be deployed to deal with the Chinese threat.
The newspaper writes that these soldiers will be a part of the reserve division, which will be present to assist the jawans stationed there in the event of any uncertain event on the LAC.
In the North East states, 3,000 personnel engaged in duties like counter insurgency and internal security have been removed and by the end of this year 7,000 soldiers will be removed.
Experts believe that it will help the army to concentrate on the border and in conventional operations.
Several parliamentary panels have recommended in their report that the Army should now be removed from its duties like Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism and put on its main task which is to protect the country from outside attack. (PTK)
