Apni Party Leader M.K. Yogi Takes Up Migrant Issues with Relief Commissioner
Demands Advance Relief for Maha Shivratri, NFSA Amnesty and Better Facilities at Migrant Camps
Jammu, February 06, 2026: Senior leader of the Apni Party and Incharge Anantnag East Constituency (Shangus), Shri M.K. Yogi, today called on the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants) and held a detailed discussion on several pressing issues concerning the migrant community.
During the meeting, Shri Yogi raised key concerns including issues related to the National Food Security Act (NFSA), acute drinking water scarcity at Jagti Township, the condition of transit accommodations in various migrant camps, and preparedness for the forthcoming festival of Maha Shivratri.
Highlighting the steep rise in prices of essential commodities, Shri Yogi strongly urged the authorities to release the advance month’s relief so that relief holders are able to celebrate Maha Shivratri with dignity. He also demanded enhancement of relief, keeping in view the increasing cost of living.
The Apni Party leader stressed the need for proper arrangements of essential commodities for Maha Shivratri at all migrant camps and non-camp areas, including Durga Nagar, Bhantalab, Bohri, Gole Gujral, and other migrant-populated localities, ensuring that no family is left unattended during the festival.
Shri Yogi pointed out that in several cases, families have been unable to delete names from ration cards due to the death of members or marriage of daughters owing to unavoidable circumstances. He requested the administration to announce a one-time amnesty to enable such families to regularise records and become eligible for benefits under NFSA. He also demanded that the ration system be made optional, allowing relief holders to choose between ration or cash assistance as per their convenience.
Emphasising the need for uniform access to basic services, Shri Yogi called for strengthened medical security, fair price shops, and other essential facilities at all migrant camps in Jammu as well as in the Kashmir Valley.
He also raised the long-pending issue of Delhi Migrants, urging that the file forwarded by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi be cleared on priority by the Lieutenant Governor’s Delhi Office to resolve the grievances of migrant families residing there.
Additionally, Shri Yogi demanded that cases related to bifurcation, deletion, and addition of family members in official records be processed on a priority basis to prevent unnecessary hardship to migrants.
The Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner assured that all issues raised during the meeting would be examined sympathetically and taken up on priority. Deputy Commissioner (Relief) Shri Vijay Kumar Sharma and Tehsildar Shri Kunal Sharma were also present during the meeting.
The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with Shri M.K. Yogi expressing hope for early and effective resolution of the issues in the larger interest of the migrant community.
