Mystic Melodies Captivate Audience at RMK Arts & Research Foundation’s Sufi Concert

Blending Renowned Artists with Young Talents, Concert Revives Kashmir's Rich Sufi and Rishi Traditions, Inspiring a New Generation

Jammu, April 27, 2024: The RMK Arts & Research Foundation, in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi, presented a mesmerizing Sufi musical concert titled “अ’सिय आ’स्य त् असी आसव (Asi Aisey tu Asi Asav)” today at the Writers Club Auditorium in Jammu. The event, aimed at preserving and reviving Jammu & Kashmir’s rich Sufi and Rishi traditions, captivated a full house of music enthusiasts, artists, and dignitaries.

The concert featured soulful renditions of mystic poetry and songs penned by revered saints and Sufi poets such as Lal Ded, Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (Nund Reshi), Master Zinda Koul, Niyami Sab, Samad Mir, Swami Govind Ji Koul, Swami Parmanand, Mahmood Gami, Ahad Zargar, Rupa Bhawani, Arnimal & Rasool Mir. This celebration of the region’s 5000-year-old cultural heritage aimed to bridge the gap between generations by introducing the younger audience to the wisdom and teachings of these spiritual luminaries.

The concert featured performances by both established senior artists and, predominantly, by young, aspiring singers who have been honing their musical skills through workshops conducted by the RMK Foundation. A key objective of the concert was to connect the younger generation with their cultural and historical roots, instilling in them an appreciation for the traditions of the Rishis, Sagas, Saints, and Sufis. The event was graced by the presence of renowned personalities from the world of art, music, literature, and poetry.

The evening commenced with a divine Sharda Satuti sung by Dr. Deepali Wattal, followed by a captivating classical dance performance by Pooja Raina. Renowned singers Zulekha Fareed, Shanti Sidh, Shreya Gurtu, Simran Gurtu, Gandharva Kaloo, and Vishwas Pandita graced the stage with their live renditions, while playback singers Dr. Deepali Wattal, Rabjot Singh, and Rakesh Kumar added their vocal prowess to the performance. The talented musicians Vijay Anand (Tabla), Vicky Gill (Synthsizer), and Rakesh Jasotra (Flute) provided the enchanting musical backdrop for the evening.

Adding a visual dimension to the concert were dance performances by senior artists Suman Pandita, Pooja Raina, and Shaista, with choreography by Pooja Raina. The stage management was expertly handled by senior actor and director Vijay Dhar, General Secretary of RMK Arts and Research Foundation.

Distinguished guests attending the event included M.Y. Yogi (Social Worker), Ashok Kangan Ji, King C Bharati (Senior Journalist), Baljeet Singh Raina (Film Producer and Director), Ravi Mhaldar, Dharminder Kohli (President JK Cine Association), Sudesh Verma (Secretary JK Cine Association), Dr. Shahnawaz (Editor-in-Chief cum Senior Cultural Officer J&K Academy), along with numerous writers, poets, artists, singers, and musicians.

The concert was a resounding success, leaving the audience spellbound with its spiritual depth and artistic brilliance. By showcasing the region’s rich Sufi heritage, the RMK Arts & Research Foundation has once again demonstrated its commitment to promoting cultural understanding and artistic expression.
