Kallpoosh, Loomba Foundation observe International Widows Day 2023 at IIT Jammu
Jammu, June 23, 2023:Kallpoosh Foundation in collaboration with Loomba Foundation observed the International Widows Day 2023 at IIT Jammu on Friday where a daylong session was held to create awareness and involve the widows through an interactive session in which various resource persons delivered their lectures to express their ideas and opinions on how to work for a better life and future for the widows who are left to fend for themselves to face the wrath of the society, after the death of their husband.
Former Judge of J&K High Court Retired Justice Sunil Hali was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Barinder Singh, Marketing Manager, LIC; Suresh Choudhary AGM & Atul Sethi Chief Manager were the Guests of Honour and Prof. Manoj K Aggarwal, IIT Jammu, and Er. Kuldeep S Bhatia, Registrar from J&K Board of Tech. Edu. were the Special Guests.
The resource persons included Sh Ramesh Raina, Financial Inclusion from SBI, Motivational Speaker–Ms Khushboo Kapthe (Gender Specialist, Dhew Jammu), Dr Ganesh, JIAR – Nutrition, Legal & Human Rights – Adv. Speaking on the occasion Justice (Rtd) Sunil Hali while appreciating the efforts of Loomba Foundation and Kallpoosh Foundation said that such initiatives go a long way to help the real deserving people of the society adding the International Widows Day was a great milestone to focus the attention towards the most deprived section of the society who have to bear the brunt of societal taboos just because their partner has died. Justice Hali said that people must come forward and contribute in such endeavours to make the life of widows better particularly from the down trodden section of the society who bear the most under such circumstances.
The resources persons delved into length about the response of the society and how the life of widows can be made better while many pertinent questions from the widows who attended the programme were also answered by the resource persons during the interactive session. The resource persons also shared their contact details with the participants and assured to extend all help to mitigate their grievances.
Earlier the Guests were welcomed by King C Bharati, JKUT Co-ordinator of Kallpoosh Foundation while the Chairperson Kallpoosh Foundation Veena Wanchoo Presented the Bouquets to the dignitaries and also spoke about the contribution of Loomba Foundation and Kallpoosh Foundation.
The Team Leader Kallpoosh Foundation, Sh R Wanchoo presented the vote of thanks with special reference and thanks to the IIT Jammu Management for extending their resources / facilities while King C Bharati compered the programme.
Chushul Mahaldar social activist and young actor and activist Ishu Bharati Pandit managed the arrangements of the entire programme.

We work for improving and empowering the lives of the economically or socially underprivileged and undertakes all such activities that support this objective, including the development of livelihoods for the weakest sections of society, welfare, and development of marginalized communities.
Similarly, Loomba Foundation established International Widows Day to raise awareness of the issue of widowhood. The significance of 23rd June is that it was on that day in 1954 that Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba, mother of the foundation’s founder, Lord Loomba, became a widow. One of the foundation’s goals is to highlight what it describes as an invisible calamity. In the 2010 book, Invisible, Forgotten Sufferers: The Plight of Widows Around the World, estimates that there are 245 million widows worldwide, 115 million of whom live in poverty and suffer from social stigmatization and economic deprivation purely because they have lost their husbands. As part of the Loomba Foundation’s awareness campaign, this study was presented to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on 22 June 2010.
The first International Widows Day took place in 2005 and was launched by Lord Loomba and the Foundation’s President, Cherie Blair. By the sixth International Widows Day in 2010, events were held in Rwanda, Sri Lanka, the United States, the UK, Nepal, Syria, Kenya, India, Bangladesh and South Africa.
The Loomba Foundation is a specialist organisation established to alleviate the plight of widows and their dependents worldwide and to eradicate discrimination and injustice against widows.
