20 days mega sports events in online mode by UoL begins

KARGIL JUNE 28, 2021: 20 days mega sports events in online mode organized by the Department of Student Welfare

University of Ladakh (UoL) in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education and Sports, Campuses and Colleges of the University of Ladakh (UoL) began today.

Vice Chancellor (VC), UoL C Phunsog, Registrar Imteeaz Kacho, Dean Academic Affairs /Controller of Examinations Professor Deskyong Namgyal, Dean Students Welfare Dr Amjad Ali Abassi, Director Kargil and Deputy Director Leh Campus, Principals and faculty members of all constituent campuses and colleges, organizers of the events and participants of different sports events were present during the inaugural session.

In the keynote address on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor UoL C Phunsog who was  also the chief guest on the occasion said that due to COVID-19 pandemic, UoL has to carry out these events in online mode, adding he expressed optimism that soon such events shall be held in the conventional way.

The VC UoL advised students to ensure that they participate in sports activities with enthusiasm besides also taking keen interest in their regular curricular activities. He said that participating in sports events will help in the overall personality development and character building of the youngesters and stressed that higher education should have four fundamental aspects; imparting knowledge, imparting moral character, imparting sporting spirit and promoting creativity among the students.

While appreciating the DSW for organizing the event, the VC conveyed his best wishes to all the organizers for successful conduct of the sports event.

Registrar UoL Imteeaz Kacho while speaking on the occasion stated that the students of campuses and colleges are going to have a lot of positive activities for the next few weeks during these events. He further said that the present event is just a beginning, and hoped that in coming days, UoL shall be organizing regular events as well.

DAA/COE Professor Deskyong Namgyal who also spoke on the occasion appreciated the organizers for coming up with this innovative idea to organize sports events in online mode. He also told that UoL is doing its best to hold other events besides regular academics. He also thanked the Department of Student Welfare, Directors Sports of the campuses and colleges for thinking and realizing such an event.

Earlier, DSW Dr Amjad Ali Abassi welcomed all the guests and participants to the inaugural session. He briefed the audience about the 20 days events including sports demo-competitions, quiz competition, fitness session and Yoga certificate course.

Dr Ujwala thanked all the guests, faculty members and participants for attending the inaugural session.

The entire session was moderated by Director Physical Education and Sports, UoL Dr Jigmet Dechan.
