1st Death Anniversary of late Tashi Rabgias observed in Leh
Hill Council Leh formally dedicates District Library in memory of the eminent scholar
Leh, October 28, 2021: The first Death Anniversary of eminent Ladakhi scholar and renowned historian late Shri Tashi Rabgias was observed today in Leh.
The Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, along with MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Dy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk, and Executive Councillors, formally dedicated the District Public Library Leh in the memory of late Shri Tashi Rabgias in a symbolic event. Various scholars, heads of religious organisations and district officers were present during the occasion. The event was organised as a part of the celebration of Iconic Week 2021.
CEC Tashi Gyalson also e-launched the 2nd edition of ‘Ladags Phonya, Leh’ magazine of the Department of Information and Public Relations, Leh in the presence of all the dignitaries at the newly renamed Tashi Rabgias District Public Library Leh.
Later, the Ladakh Buddhist Association Leh held a symbolic event to mark the 1st death anniversary of late Shri Tashi Rabgias at the Chowkhang Vihara in Leh. CEC, MP, ECs, Councillors, heads of religious organisations and various other dignitaries attended the event. His Eminence Urgyan Rinpoche was the chief guest during the occasion.
Prominent scholars highlighted the life and achievements of late Shri Tashi Rabgias and stressed the need for preserving his legacy in modern Ladakh. They also spoke about their experiences working with the eminent scholar and the contributions of late Tashi Rabgias in the field of art, culture and literature.
Addressing the gathering, CEC Tashi Gyalson termed late Shri Tashi Rabgias as a man of vision whose focus was on working for preserving local culture and tradition. He added that dedicating the District Public Library Leh to late Tashi Rabgias would be a small tribute to the renowned scholar from the Hill Council, Leh. He urged the people of Ladakh to utilise the library as an asset to explore and enrich the vast culture and tradition of Ladakh.
CEC Gyalson reiterated that the Executive Council of the LAHDC Leh have passed major resolutions including, Inclusion of the Bhoti language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution and making Bhoti language one of the official languages of the Union Territory of Ladakh. He also stated that to observe and follow the legacy of late Shri Tashi Rabgias, his birthday will be celebrated as ‘Literature day’ in Leh from next year onward.
MP Ladakh Jamyang Namgyal also stated that Ladakhis need to remember the contributions of such eminent scholars. He added that the youth of Ladakh should revisit the rich legacy left behind by late Tashi Rabgias in the field of art, culture and literature and enhance the literature culture with the help of prominent scholars in the present time.
A short film on the living legacy of late Tashi Rabgias was screened and a group song composed by the late scholar was performed during the event at the Chowkhang Vihara Leh.
