Vomedh begins second season of ‘Terrace Theatre’ with “Nanhi Kali”

The theatre series is yet another step in promoting regular theatre activities

Jammu, January 06, 2024: Continuing its efforts to take theatre to peoples’ doorsteps, Vomedh Rangmanch, the prominent theatre group of J&K today began 2nd season of Terrace Theatre by staging the 1st episode of its much talked about Terrace Theatre Series at House No 8, Lane No 7, Surya Vihar, Bohri where it’s short play “Nanhi Kali” written by Rajni Bhatti and directed by Rohit Bhat was performed.

Senior Journalist, Social Activist and Theatre Artist King C Bharati was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Today’s episode was hosted by Anita Sharma on the terrace of her house at Surya Vihar, Bohri.

The neighbours and theatre lovers assembled on the terrace and watched the engrossing short play enacted beautifully by artists of Vomedh.

The theatre series is yet another step in promoting regular theatre activities by Vomedh group which has carved a niche in theatre circles of Jammu and Kashmir and presented various theatrical presentations in J&K and outside getting huge appreciation from one and all which include Ek Aur Birbal, Ateeth Ke Sakshi, Khoya Bachpan, Gadeh Bateh, Rovmut Bhatta, Mujrim Mein Nahi Par Mein Hi Hoon etc.

This is a path breaking concept to revive the old cultural neighbourhood bonding on the terrace and at the same time promoting art and culture, says Rohit Bhat, director Vomedh.

He added that Vomedh will go to other places and the Terrace of other people to perform such short plays to involve the community at large in theatre and social upliftment.

Rakesh Roshan Bhat, playwright feels that this concept would go a long way in promoting theatre in Jammu and also appreciated the artists of Vomedh who make all efforts to take the terrace series to different areas with dedication.

Speaking on the occasion King C Bharati said that “Terrace Theatre “will involve youngsters and new entrants in theatre to give them as well as the theatre lovers an opportunity to watch performances on a regular basis.

He appreciated the fact that Vomedh was also initiating a regular workshop series for the fresh aspirants and theatre lovers which will be conducted by Vomedh groups senior artists to keep the flame of meaningful and quality theatre alive.

It is worth mentioning here that this theatre series helps people to watch live theatre in their vicinity and bond with each other like the good old days to free themselves from the whirlpool of social media.

The artists who performed in the play include Bharati Kaul, Himagini Moza, Ishu Bharati Pandit, Suman Bhat, Priya Khar and Aarohi Moza Balgotra.
