Two newly recruited Al-Badar militants, 3 OGWS arrested in Handwara: Police
Handwara, April 13, 2021: Jammu and Kashmir police Tuesday said that it has arrested two newly recruited Al-Badar militants and three of their associates along with incriminating material from Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Handwara, Sandeep Gupta said that they were receiving regular inputs about the presence of militants and their strong network following which a special Naka was established and a few of the associates of Al-Badr outfit were apprehended who earlier tried to flee from the spot. He said that grenades were recovered from their possession.
He said after being questioned, the arrested associates revealed contacts with two newly recruited militants of Al-Badar outfit present in the orchards, and a joint operation was launched with Army and CRPF in which two militants were apprehended along with pistol, magazine, and some rounds.
The district police chief said that they planned to create militancy fear and execute something besides their other plans will be revealed soon. The SSP was flanked by senior army and CRPF officials.
He said that it will also be investigated whether there are more people associated with them and whether the network was operating only in Handwara other places.
To a question, he said that sat far there is no active militant in Handwara while the involvement of this groups in any action in the most will be known during the investigation but the recoveries made from them depict their connection with Al-Badar militant outfit.
He informed that of the five arrested persons, three were apprehended from the jurisdiction of police station Kralgund, and the remaining two in Handwara.
He also said that their future plans and all that will be known during the investigation only while the exact number of Over Ground Workers continues to vary from time to time.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman in a statement identified the apprehended OWGs as Mohd Yaseen Rather S/o Mohd Akbar, Showkat Ahmad Ganie S/o Sonaulla Ganie and Gh Nabi Rather S/o Wali Mohammad all residents of Village Kachloo, Qaziabad while the two militants as Saleem Yousuf Rather S/o Mohd Yousuf Rather and Iqhlaq Ahmad Sheikh S/o Imtiyaz Ahmad both residents of Watergam.
He said that In this context Case FIR No. 20/2021 U/s 7/25 I.A.Act, 13,18,25,39 ULA (P) Act has been registered in Police Station Kralgund—(KNO)
