SKUAST-Jammu,  Empowers Farmer’s with Comprehensive Poultry Farming Training

Jammu, January 09, 2025: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jammu under the aegis of Sher -e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), successfully conducted a  training program on Poultry Farming at R.S.Pura. The programme was organised under the dynamic Leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bhupendra Nath Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid and Dr. Puneet Choudhary , Chief Scientist and Head KVK, Jammu of SKUAST-Jammu.

Dr. Puneet Choudhary , Chief Scientist and Head Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Jammu , welcome the participants for attending the training programme and enlightened the participants about the workings and mandates of the KVK system, encouraging them to adopt poultry farming as a subsidiary occupation to enhance their livelihoods and generate additional income.

Dr. Imran Ganai, Assistant Professor, Division of Animal Nutrition (SKUAST-J) , highlighted the importance of value addition to meat and eggs and shared recipes to improve their acceptance among families and his lecture covered breed identification, management of poultry chicks and brooder houses, management of poultry sheds for both layers and broilers, feeding, disease management, and cultivating Azolla for poultry feed, ensuring the successful operation of local and commercial poultry farms.

Dr. Ganai highlighted the importance of the poultry sector in enhancing nutritional and livelihood security of rural and urban masses alike. He said the dint of hard work of all the stakeholders in this sector has enabled the common ordinary man to afford a square meal for himself. He said the sector has huge potential for growth, which if exploited can help in creating new employment avenues for rural youth.

The participants thanked the KVK for organizing such an innovative programme. During the programme progressive farmers, Panches and Sarpanch of the area also shared their experiences . The training concluded with Mr.  Satvir Singh, Programme Assistant KVK, Jammu expressing gratitude to all participants and motivating them to seek further technical guidance from the experts for their future endeavours in poultry farming.
