Police busts extortionists gang in Budgam; 04 arrested
Budgam, November 06, 2021: Police in Budgam have busted a gang of extortionists by arresting four extortionists involved in the commission of crime. Extorted cash, dummy weapon and other materials used in the commission of crime have also been recovered from their possession.
On 23/08/2021, Police Station Beerwah received a written complaint from a person namely Tawseef Ahmad Bhat of Rawatpora Khag stating therein that on the evening of 22/08/2021, he along with his neighbour Saqib Ahmed Dar were on way to home after closing his office (Khidmat Centre) when some masked persons stopped them while crossing the river Shuknag. After showing weapon, they thrashed them and robbed the cash amount of ₹1.50 lacs.
On receipt of this complaint, a case vide FIR No. 121/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Beerwah and investigation was set into motion.
During the course of investigation, officers working on various leads and after strenuous efforts one suspect identified as Feroz Ahmad Wani son of Abdul Ahad Wani resident of Pethzanigam was zeroed in on and during sustained questioning, officers learnt about his involvement in the commission of crime. On his revelation, he disclosed the involvement of two more associates namely Asif Ahmad Ahanger son of Abdul Gani Ahanger resident of Bonzanigam and Bilal Ahmad Malik son of Ali Muhammad Malik resident of Pethzanigam in the commission of crime. Subsequently, they were also arrested.
On their disclosure, one dummy AK-47, robbed cash amount of rupees 33,300 and face covers were recovered from the shed constructed in the orchards of one of the accused Asif Ahmad Ahanger of Bonzanigam.
During further investigation, it came to fore that the dummy AK-47 was made and carved by one carpenter identified as Abdul Momin Shah son of Abdul Rashid Shah resident of Pethzanigam who was also arrested.
Investigation is under way and more arrests and recoveries are expected.
