Tees ki Tees is Third book of Bindya’s writing career. The book Tees ki Tis written by Bindya Raina Tikoo consists of 39 short stories that enshrine conversations of routine life. The characters define the commoners of all groups. The stories inspired by the short conversations between common masses. Through the short stories of ‘Tees ki Tees’, Bindya had tried to showcase peculiar aspects of the society inspired by the incidents and conversations in the family, society, country, time and environment amidst the fading values in the modern society and deviation from the original path in the pursuit of materialism. She said, “I have Just tried to show and spread the word of value and harmony and give back to society what I’ve gained from it”.
The characters of these short stories are inspired by the common people seen around who leave their houses to struggle for survival, about their daily grind but she has successfully weaved these struggles into inspiring, charming and affectionate colourful pictures. Her attachment to the roots, Jammu Kashmir, is well portrayed in her stories where she describes the beauty, the natural image of Jammu and Kashmir. She does not hesitate to talk about Lake, the snow-clad mountains and then the scorching sun.
While stories like ‘Tees Ki Tees’, ‘Saaya’, ‘Chonch Mein Pahad’ talk about the pains and tortures of terror faced by Kashmiri Pandit women, yet she has no doubt that women are strong and empowered in short stories like ‘Samajh Aur Samaaj’, ‘Dhan aur Dhan’, ‘Asadharan Chavi’, Swatantrata Diwas’.
Being the youngest in family she always been the apple of eye for her family, and being taught discipline and values, most of her short stories are an attempt to understand life through family inclusion. ‘Mahabharata on Ramayana’, ‘Ayodhya Sa Ghar’, ‘Shaam Ka Jhagda’, ‘Nakhoon’, ‘Nai Pen’ are examples of this.
While the fragrance of pleasant change and self-reliant India has been touched upon in ‘Shahar Ki Mehek’, an attempt has also been made to bring out the inconsistencies and disparities of the artists and the art world in ‘Maan Apnaam’, ‘Khilte Bujhte Chand’.
The last short story of this book, talks about upbringing inspired by her mother’s life, her struggle of upbringing three daughters in a patriarch society.
“Perhaps this is the inspiration for me to move beyond short stories and move on to the journey of story writing” says Bindya. Talking about the literal aspect of the book she said that these short stories will surlily make ways for communicative language that is easily understood by every generation keeping due respect and order of literature.
She believes that the continuous encouragement from her readers will keep her inspiring to work her last short story ‘Parvarish’ into a novel in near future.
