Lal Prakash Ki Aur”: Vomedh Illuminates Lalleshwari’s Teachings Through Art and Dialogue
Vomedh Celebrates the Enduring Legacy of Padmavati Mata Lalleshwari with Week-Long Festivities
Jammu, September 12, 2024: Vomedh, the renowned theatre group, marked the birth anniversary of Padmavati Maha Shiv Yogini Lalleshwari with a day-long celebration of her life, teachings, and profound impact on Kashmiri culture and spirituality. The event, titled “Lal Prakash Ki Aur,” was held at the Writers Club, Abhinav Theatre Complex, Jammu, and served as a fitting tribute to the revered Kashmiri mystic poetess.
Ms. Harvinder Kour, JKAS, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages (JKAACL) was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr Arvind Karwani, Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner (M) was the guest of honour.
Ms Kour in her speech said that, “Vomedh’s dedication to preserving and promoting Kashmiri culture, especially through the eyes of the youth, is truly commendable. Today’s event is a testament to their commitment, while Dr Karwani said, “Events like these are vital. They ensure that the wisdom of luminaries like Mata Lalleshwari isn’t lost, but passed down to inspire generations to come.”
The highlight of the day was the culmination of a week-long engagement with Lalleshwari’s legacy, which began with an inter-school painting and calligraphy competition. Over 200 students from various schools, including Abhay Higher Secondary School, Muthi, Bhagwati Haqiqat Memorial Public School, Barnai, Playway House Higher Secondary School, Hee Maa Public School, and Jagti, enthusiastically participated. The competition introduced young minds to the life and teachings of Mata Lalleshwari, inspiring creativity through art. Renowned artist Veerji Virender Sumbly and national and international award-winning artist Shivani Koul Bhat judged the competition.
The event commenced with a soulful rendition of Lal Vakh by students and the music teacher, Shri Anil Koul, from Abhay Higher Secondary School. All participating students were awarded certificates of appreciation. The day also featured insightful paper readings, including a session titled “Knowing Lalleshwari,” followed by a thought-provoking brainstorming session with the audience titled “Kuch Ansh Prakash Ke.”
Adding to the significance of the event, a portrait of Mata Lalleshwari painted by renowned artist Shivani Koul Bhat, was unveiled and presented to Chief Guest Ms. Harvinder Kour and Guest of Honour Dr. Arvind Karwani, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M). The occasion also served as a platform to felicitate poets Kusum Dhar, Bimla Aima, Ramesh Nirash, and Pitambar Razdan for their invaluable contributions to literature.
Renowned author and poet, Bal Krishan Sanyasi, graced the occasion by presenting a beautifully crafted paper illuminating the life and poetry of Maha Shiv Yogini Lalleshwari. His work, rich in literary allusion and insightful analysis, offered a fresh perspective on the mystic poet’s journey and her enduring legacy.
Dr. Agnishekhar, Dr. Khema Koul, Prof. R L Shant and Bal Krishan Sanyasi shared their insights during a stimulating brainstorming session. Certificates of Participation were distributed to all participating students, recognizing their creativity and engagement with Lalleshwari’s legacy.
The celebrations saw participation from notable personalities, including Dr. Raj Nehru, Dr. Yogeshwari Bhat, Sh. Dalip Langoo, Dr. Usha Kher, Sh. RK Rawal Ji, Pamposh Ambardar, and Ruby Raina Bhat, who engaged in interactive sessions and webinars on TRN Channel, shedding light on the life and works of Mata Lalleshwari. These sessions, hosted by Rohit Bhat and Bharti Kaul, explored Mata Lalleshwari’s literature and philosophy, highlighting her significance as the only Kashmiri Pandit mystic poetess to pen down Lal Vakh in Kashmiri.
Adding a melodious touch to the celebration was acclaimed singer and performer, Naina Saproo, known for her devotional music, particularly her renditions of Lal Vakh. Saproo’s performance added a spiritual depth to the event, captivating the audience with her soulful voice.
Rohit Bhat, Director of Vomedh, emphasized the importance of remembering and celebrating the legacy of Mata Lalleshwari, stating, “Her teachings of spiritual enlightenment, communal harmony, and human unity hold immense relevance even today. Through this celebration, we aim to introduce her profound wisdom to younger generations and inspire them to imbibe her values.”
Vote of Thanks was presented by Bharati Kaul, Vice President Vomedh while the programme was compered by Bindiya Raina Tikoo. Prominent among those present include BL Betab, Senior Journalist and social activist King C Bharati and others.
The event was a resounding success, bringing together art, literature, and spirituality to honour the legacy of one of Kashmir’s most revered figures. The “Lal Week” celebrations will continue to inspire audiences until September 15th, 2024.
